ROBERT SNEATH CONTRIBUTES TO EUROPEAN STANDARDS COMMITTEE

Robert Sneath, Silsoe Odours Director, currently serves as the UK expert and a research contributor on the Technical Committee CEN/TC264 Working Group 2 of CEN, the European Committee for Standardisation. CEN is the umbrella organisation for the National Standardisation bodies of 34 European countries. For this reason, CEN standards are recognised as representing the European benchmark for scientific knowledge and research. Importantly, all EU member states must implement CEN standards.

SILSOE ODOURS EXPERTISE IS VALUED BY CEN

Robert joined the CEN Technical Committee TC264/WG2 in 1996. Robert is well placed to perform the role as a renowned research scientist and expert in olfactometry. Together, the committee members review and update the EN13725 standard. EN13725 relates to the determination of odour concentration by dynamic olfactometry. The committee value Robert’s contribution highly, as a result of his expertise gained from decades of experience.

THOUGHT LEADERS IN THE FIELD OF OLFACTOMETRY

At Silsoe Odours, we think it’s important to contribute to the CEN working group for two reasons. First, we are part of the live and contemporary scientific debate on olfactometry. To put it another way, we believe it’s important to be active amongst our peers leading the field in their different countries. Secondly, we are part of a large and influential network. So, together, we share ideas and practice in pursuit of professional and practical excellence. One of our aims as an odour consultancy is to change how UK sectors involved in odorous processes perceive and deal with ‘nuisance odours’. In order to do that effectively, we need to be thought leaders in the field of olfactometry. When we work with globally esteemed bodies like CEN, we continue our journey towards that aim.
