ROBERT SNEATH SPEAKS AT UK AD & WORLD BIOGAS EXPO

Robert Sneath, Director at Silsoe Odours, will present odour management strategies at the UK AD & World Biogas Expo

ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES FOR ODOUR MANAGEMENT

We’re happy to announce that Robert Sneath, Director at Silsoe Odours, will speak at the UK AD & World Biogas Expo 2019. So make sure you don’t miss out on this leading international event. There, Robert adds his valuable insights to the “Alternative Strategies for Odour Management” session, alongside several industry specialists. He will speak in detail about odours from feedstock and process.

Robert has more than 40 years of experience in odour research and management. He founded Silsoe Odours in 2005. Under his expert leadership, it was consequently the first odour laboratory to receive UKAS accreditation. What’s more, Robert has been the UK representative of the EU CEN workgroup responsible for odours since 1995. Specifically, the group is responsible for creating and developing the European odour standard BSEN13725.

UK AD & BIOGAS EXPO

The UK AD & World Biogas Expo is the largest international trade show solely dedicated to anaerobic digestion and biogas. Organised by ADBA and the World Biogas Association, this year’s show focuses chiefly on insight, innovation and investment opportunities. It will be held at NEC Birmingham, on 3rd-4th July 2019.

ODOUR MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES FOR BIOFUELS & AD

As those of you in the field will know, the use of biofuels and anaerobic digestion is increasing across the UK. As a result, the benefits of using our rubbish to create renewable energy are gaining traction. However, there are drawbacks. Most notably that these plants are associated with unpleasant odours. This can often cause conflict with the local community. Here are the critical things to consider.

Development Stage

Are you planning new biogas or AD development? Then odour measurement and modelling are valuable tools for you. The insights you gain will allow you to model and minimise odour emissions at your potential plant. Crucially, you can achieve this before committing to building costs. Clearly, this is especially useful in developing your plans and support of your planning applications.

Best Practice in Odour Management

Good odour management practices can help you in several scenarios. For example, it can help you authenticate odour complaints and reduce the odour emissions of your existing plants. Next, you can use odour measurement data to help satisfy the regulator and prove compliance with operational permits. Finally, proactive odour measurement allows you to identify and rectify odour issues before they become a problem.

“Our in-house teams conduct the odour sampling activities, with Silsoe Odours completing the subsequent odour testing. We’ve now been working closely with them for over 10 years, and they have proven themselves a highly trusted partner. The team are knowledgeable and friendly, and the laboratory services they provide are second-to-none. I cannot recommend them enough for their understanding of our business needs, flexibility and efficiency. Their odour specialists are also a valued source of helpful, prompt advice.”

Kate Lister, Director of Compliance, Biogen
“Excellent. We very much appreciated your flexibility particularly regarding the timing of the samples which was out of our control. I would highly recommend Silsoe."

Becky Greaves, Research & Biology Manager, Biogen
