ODOUR DETECTION AND ODOUR CONTROL SERVICES

A COMPREHENSIVE RANGE OF ODOUR SAMPLING AND ODOUR TESTING SERVICES

Our wide range of odour services can be tailored to your specific needs, helping you meet the operating requirements of the regulator in relation to odour detection and odour control activities. You can choose a fully-combined package or standalone odour services, depending on the intricacies of your specific site(s) and the odour control challenges you face. Our odour experts will be happy to advise you on the best course of action for your requirements.

Our goal is to fully support and enhance your odour control activities, and our approach is two-fold. Firstly, we provide comprehensive and independent scientific data from our UKAS-accredited odour laboratory based in Bedfordshire. Our clients often find this helpful when working with the regulator. You can be confident that all our data is based on accurate measurement, independent analysis and expert diagnostics of odour samples.

Secondly, our significant odour expertise means we will always demonstrate the ways in which the data can be translated into effective preventative and/or remedial action. Our suggestions offer practical and realistic odour control solutions, helping you to reduce the impact odorous emissions have on the environment, satisfy the regulator and avoid costly legal sanctions.

All our advice is based on the Silsoe Odours team’s extensive experience in the field of odour control, which scales more than 35 years. Our remarkable level of technical expertise is, in part, thanks to our involvement with the creation and ongoing development of the European Standard for olfactometry and samples. Silsoe Odours founder, Robert Sneath, has been the UK expert on the committee of the European CEN working group for odour measurement standard BSEN13725, since 1995.

ODOUR ASSESSMENT FOR PLANNING

Primarily to meet planning permission odour control requirements, usually for very small housing developments or a change of use or expansion of a commercial property.

SNIFF SURVEY

An independent subjective survey measuring the impact of odours, and identifying the specific source(s) where unknown.

SMOKE TESTING

Controlling odours by testing buildings and containers to ensure that weak points in construction are not allowing odours to escape.

ODOUR LABORATORY TESTING SERVICES

Our specialist odour laboratory in Bedfordshire was the UK’s first UKAS-accredited to ISO17025, and all our odour testing is measured to the BSEN13725 European Standard.

WHO ARE OUR CLIENTS?

For the past two decades, we have provided a range of odour support to sectors whose industrial processes or plants provide odorous by-products.

Our odour services are useful for environmental, engineering and air quality consultants. They’re also helpful for planners, as increased use of brownfield sites requires careful odour management.
